HEALTHCARE
Qualified and caring physicians, along with modern technology, provide the Crisp County region with quality healthcare.
CRISP REGIONAL HEALTH SERVICES For more than 50 years, Crisp Regional Hospital has served the medical needs of the area. The present facility on Hwy. 41 (7th Street) north opened its doors in 1990, and has recently completed two expansion projects: the most recent expansion grew the Emergency Room from 3,300 square-feet to 12,000 square-feet and qualified the ER as a Level IV trauma center. The million dollar expansion establishes 15 rooms to care for 18 patients at a time, including specialty rooms for trauma, bariatric patients, and orthopedics. There is also a fast-track area for treating minor emergencies.
An earlier expansion doubled the size of the intensive care unit, provided a new medical records area, a larger physician's lounge, a relocation for the same day surgery department and the expansion of the medical imaging department. The expansion allowed for the purchase of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment and two pieces of imaging equipment that are state-of-the-art. A GW Lunar iDXA Scanner for measuring bone mineral density is twice as precise and accurate as competing systems. The newest technology delivers crisp, high resolution images of all skeletal sites. In addition to bone, the DXA also can assess fat and lean tissue. DXA is the "gold standard" test for assessing fracture risk.
Crisp Regional rivals the capabilities of neighboring big city hospitals with the addition of a GE 64 Slice VXT CT Scanner. This scanner helps to pinpoint disease at earlier stages and provides doctors more information for planning appropriate treatment. The technology is so fast that it can capture exceptionally clear pictures of the heart while it is beating. When physicians obtain detailed images of the anatomy and organ systems, they are able to make more informed diagnostic in a noninvasive manner.
Besides a thoroughly modern imaging department, Crisp Regional offers an accredited medical laboratory and full-time, board certified pathologist; a dialysis center; an emergency team that's on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; a home-like birthing center; physical, speech and occupational therapy; a sleep center and an oncology clinic.
Close to 100 physicians representing 20 specialized fields have privileges at the 73-bed facility.
Also affiliated with Crisp Regional are two community health-care centers in Warwick and Arabi; Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehab Center; Blackshear Retirement Villas; Crisp Regional Hospice and CareSouth.
